Shanghai Greeters was founded in January, 2013; however, the greeters’ spirit is already alive and kicking since the founding of Big Apple Greeters twenty (20) years ago.
We’re also a proud member of Global Greeter Network; we have members in 47 cities in 19 countries worldwide and still growing!

Shanghai Greeters’ mission is to enhance Shanghai ’s worldwide image and enrich the Shanghai experience by connecting visitors with knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteers. The mission was created to accomplish the following goals:
Shanghai Greeters builds bridges between people and cultures, and promotes cross-cultural understanding. Greeters welcome visitors from all over the world, and visitors go home with a better appreciation of the diversity of Shanghainese and all Chinese.
- Promote a friendly, inviting, manageable image of Shanghai City
- Bolster tourism and to foster economic development
- Create opportunities for Shanghainese to show pride in their city and give back to their city through volunteering
